Artist: Stanley Accrington
Since 1983 (when he thinks he was about minus 6) Stanley Accrington has been coming to Whitby Folk Week to sing, play, MC, chair, host, captain at cricket matches, write, clown about and – always – have a good time. As a post-modernist music hall act, and a neo-folk songwriter, he can draw on hundreds of traditional songs that he has written, as well as a few poems and oddments. Not all the songs are silly though, and he always aims to keep the ears of the audience on their toes. If you have managed to avoid him so far, well done, but if you don’t see him at least once during the week, you won’t score 3 points in the I-Spy book of Aging Folk Acts.
