…comes from near Skipton and has been involved in traditional music for well over forty years _ many of these as a professional performer around the folk clubs and festivals in bands like Dab Hand and Iona. He has also been involved in long musical partnerships with Maggie Boyle,Brian Peters and Dave Townsend. From a base in traditional music he has branched out into songwriting and composing and produced a stunning album of work on the poet John Clare ‘A Distance From The Town’. He is a master of the acoustic guitar, and released a cd of instrumental trad tunes a few years ago ‘Jackdaw Grooves’, a fine flute player, and has recently begun occasionally using the electric cello for song accompaniment. He recently recorded a project called ‘Mumonkan’ or ‘The Gateless Gate’ taking stories from a 13th century Chinese book and using them as a jumping off point to write songs set in industrial yorkshire. He has been a regular attender and guest of whitby folk week over 30 years.
