Artist: Sheffield City Morris Men
Sheffield City Morris Men were formed in 1975 with the aim of making morris dancing an entertaining spectacle in the urban environment and with additional aims of singing and playing music. They mainly dance in the ‘Meddup’ tradition – a single-step style, being our interpretation of Upton-upon-Severn, developed over the last 39 years. The name ‘Medup’ derives from the details of ancient dances found in an ancient oak chest near Midhopestones, North West of Sheffield… or more likely it is because the dances were ‘medupbeeuzzsenz’ or ‘made up by ourselves’ in Sheffield dialect!
